”Octavio has long been one of Spain's best kept secrets. He has an extremely fluid technique and a time feel that makes him one of the best of those born in the motherland of the guitar, but he is also writing interesting music that combines world music with jazz ideas in a unique way. Check out Tuna Happiness, for the full experience!” - Jonathan Kreisberg
Tuna Happiness is my first album as leader. I'm a guitar player from the Canary Islands and moved to Barcelona more than 15 years ago to study and develop my professional career.
Echoes of Moroccan gnawa music, afrobeat, rock, Brazilian music, groove and even electronic music can be heard on the album, all driven by improvisation and jazz. It is in this breeding ground where the seven original compositions born that shapes the project also the Milton Nascimento version.
To record the music I have chosen a quintet, and I wanted to surround myself by great musicians and friends,
Kike Perdomo, tenor sax and soprano
Audun Waage, trumpet
Giampaolo Laurantaci, double bass
Juan Luis Castaño, drums
In addition, I have also wanted to have the participation of some friends who have collaborated unselfishly on some subject of the album as Mel Semé, who sings in Ponta de Areia by Milton Nascimento or Babacar Gayé, who writes a short poem of his own on the tune EPTBH.
And for the illustration of the album cover I have the great luck to have the brilliant Canarian artist Matías de Sabotaje al Montaje. His mural works breathe through the whole world from the Canary Islands to the United States through Brazil, France and Portugal...

Kike Perdomo, saxo tenor y soprano
Audun Waage, trompeta
Giampaolo Laurantaci, contrabajo
